The Staff of Prophecy
I shrieked as a bolt of lightning struck past her, narrowly missing her ears. Ms. Elmer slapped her forehead.
“MARIAH JONES, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU TO PUT YOUR WAND AWAY?”
Mariah sat awkwardly at her desk, her cheeks bright pink.
“S-s-sorry, Mr. E-Elmer,” She stuttered. I rolled my eyes. Mariah was always getting herself in trouble.
“Now, class, I have a very special announcement!” Ms. Elmer stood up. “I have decided to have a contest to see who will represent our school at the Truth Games next week,”
There were excited murmurs around the room. I could basically hear Addison Ray’s thoughts. Addison Ray was a snooty, rich girl that lived in a pink mansion at the top of a beautiful, grassy hill. Everything she had was pink. A pink room, pink hair, pink clothes, everything! She had very fancy clothes and today, instead of wearing our school uniform, she had worn a pink, frilly dress that went only up to her thighs. The school was too scared to tell off Addison’s parents because they were mean and selfish. It was pretty obvious that she thought she was going to go to the Truth Games. If there was anyone else I hated more than Mariah Jones, it would be Addison.
