BOOM! I landed with a thud on the hard dusty desert ground, sending dust clouds to spiral around me. I shook my head, rubbing my eyes and dusting off my clothes. Where was I? I looked at the scenery around me. Really, there wasn’t much to see. The desert seemed to go on for miles and miles on end with no single tree or desert shrub in sight. Confused, I pinched myself. I must have been dreaming. Nothing. I was well and truly awake. I tried to think of a way to get out of here. What was the last thing that happened before I was somehow transported here?
AHA! I was the first to try out my crazy grandma’s transport machine. I thought that for sure it wouldn’t work but my grandma said it would teleport me to the kitchen downstairs. I guess we were both wrong. This is not what we thought was behind that door. It was just red, hot, sandy dirt. My train of thought was broken by something tickling me by the ankles. I looked down to see a snowy white rabbit looking up at me with big eyes. I tilted my head. A bunny in a desert? I tried stroking it but before I knew it had vanished. Was I hallucinating? A few minutes went by until I found MYSELF vanished from the desert and was standing in a lush green forest. The next few things all happened at once. It was basically a complete replay of what happened in the desert except now I was in a lush green forest, the wind whistling in my ears. The bunny was there again, half a minute later it vanished, 10 seconds later I vanished. Back in the desert. This time it was weirder though. The dirt seemed redder than the other desert; the sun's rays were hotter. The white rabbit appeared again. Oh no! Not this again! But half a minute later nothing happened. Huh? Instead, the white rabbit started talking. OK this was getting SUPER weird!!! “Matilda!” The rabbit started, “ I have been watching you for more than 6 months and you are definitely not who you think you are. Follow me through this secret door. I will lead the way.” What else could I have done but follow the rabbit? What choice did I have?
