My writing:
Curiosity drives danger
COUGH! COUGH! Roared the family. The whole family was sick, extremely ill. Only because of one reason: the plague. It had been taking over. There was no cure... well... that's what the world thought. But it really wasn't like that. Young Jack was the only one in his family who wasn’t sick, so he had more hope and knowledge that there was a cure for this sickness, and he was destined to find it.
“I know it may seem hopeless, but no", Jack said with courage in his voice and a gleam in his eye. “I WILL find a cure and save you all.” And so, the young Jack left the cave in search of a cure for the world. He walked north for about 10 days until he found the coast of the country. He started to swim. He swam and swam until he finally reached land. New. York. City. Busy streets, flashy lights, and buzzing businesses all in action. After a couple visits to some people, he finally found some more hope. Direction.
He opened the blue door of a creaking shop called ‘Direct 2 U.' He went inside and a tiny bell rang. It was dark. Pitch black. Until he saw 2 beady eyes flash out of nowhere. They were big, blue, and they had red dots in the middle. A creaky moan roared:” WHO GOES THERE?”. Jack replies, with anxiety in his voice:” J-Just a boy in need of directions”. It was quiet. For a long time. Until the thing roared. “ROAARRRRRRR!!!!!!!!”, Jack heard.
He began to run. In any direction and every direction. He ran for weeks. He ran through deserts, oceans, forests, and even islands! Until he stopped. No one behind him. What was it all for? He stopped at a tree blocking his path. He walked past it and found a wooden mansion. He stared for a while. Until thunder began. Then lightning struck. Then rain. He needed shelter.” It's the only choice”, Jack told himself. He entered the mansion.
When he opened the door, he saw a long, dark, narrow, and creepy hallway in front of him. He took the first step. And the second. And more and more. Until he took the 17th step. He stepped on a trapdoor and started plummeting to the undeterred ground! “AAAHHHH!!”, he yelled out. He saw the ground...full of spikes!
He flapped his arms around as he thought of something- how would it be like in the grave? But suddenly, even though he knew he was… doomed… he thought that he should at least try. He then saw something that lowered his hopes entirely. The walls of the trapdoor with spikes were closing in! Now he would get squashed and squeezed! Unless… poor jack suddenly had the bestest idea, that may just save his life after all.
Jack decided to dive into the spikes. He was going at high speeds. When he reached between the closing walls, he grabbed one arm on one side of the wall and the other on the other, until he was grabbing on to the closing walls. He then lifted one of his arms more up, and so with the right and vice versa. Until he was climbing up the closing walls! It was a daring plan, and he was doing pretty well, because he learnt this skill in his grade 5 summer camp. But the walls were closing in… fast…
“POP!” Goes the head, out of the nearly closed walls. Jack lifted himself up, dusted himself off, and kept going through the narrow hallway. He wasn’t too far from the door exit, so he went backwards to see if the storm has passed and he no longer needed shelter. But as soon as he heard a lightning bolt strike the mansion, illuminating the dimmed hallway, he knew he didn’t need to check the door, so he walked more forward, in search for a couch, or tv or anything… until as he was walking more forward, he heard the door…
CREEEAAAKKK!! Went the door. All Jack saw in the distance through the door was darkness. And rain. And lightning. Who would’ve opened the door? He shrugged and kept moving forward. But he had this strange feeling in his stomach, coming up to his head. He felt that he absolutely had to see who had opened the door. And reader, as you know, curiosity drives danger. He suddenly started walking back to see what was out there. But he stopped midway. He didn’t need to see what was out there. It saw him.
Two, giant, beady, white eyes, with just the thinest red dot in the middle, darted what didn’t even seem like a pupil of an eye right at jacks' face. He felt mortified. What was it? He couldn’t think. He didn’t want to think. He wanted to run. HE NEEDED TO RUN. He ran. For his life. He didn’t stop to look back. Just kept running. Over the trapdoor he jumped. He ran down a staircase. Then he went back up a staircase and then he looked back. Nothing. Phew. Jack was poofed. He looked to the side of his right, nothing. His left, no one. His back again, not one. Then he looked forward. And he wished he didn’t.
He was tall. He was red. He had what seemed like two horns mounted on his head. He had the biggest evil smile. He had two white eyes. He had red dots in his eyes. He wore what seemed like a cheap, underdressed blazer, which still had the tag ‘5 bucks’ on it. Who was he? Read through all the facts again and see if you can figure out who he is. If you guessed a tall, creepy tomato in a jumper, you were wrong. It. Was. The. Devil.
When Jack had realized it was the devil, he reacted pretty chill. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Oh, that’s right, no he didn’t. He screamed and wanted to run. But he was just so, so tired. He sat down, mortified once again. “Listen kid,”, a deep voice of the devil blurted out. “I’m not gonna hurt ya.”. Jack was confused. A- the devil- not hurt him? It seemed unreal to poor jack. “I have the cure to this sickness, the plague”, he said. “I just need something from you and it’s all yours...”. Jack got really excited. “YES! YES! TELL ME! TELL ME! ANYTHING I’LL DO IT!!,” Jack yelled with joy. Then the devil said: “5 minutes after I give you the cure, your soul is..mine.”.
“…”, Jack thought. He actually had no idea what a soul was, poor, idiotic, jack, so he agreed. The devil pulled two things out of his pocket: a green potion trapped in the tiniest glass bottle, and a yellow potion, cuddled up in a transparent metal bottle. He gave them both to Jack. “Yellow for speed, green for cure”, the devil said. “Clocks ticking in 10… 9… 8…7…”. The devil started counting the seconds until the 5 minutes started. The yellow one, jack would use to get to his parents in time, and the green to cure them. Pretty straightforward. “2…1…GO!”, devil blurted out, and suddenly a mini clock that said ‘4 mins and 59 seconds’ on it was floating next to him. He opened the cap for the metal bottle and… and…
Jack felt a sudden BURST in his body. Electricity flowing all through him. Until it sparked the heart. And the heart spread all the electricity evenly… everywhere. He was fast everywhere… the brain, legs, arms, and yes, even the lungs. With one empty bottle lying on the floor and one green bottle in hand, and a clock next to him, he bolted out of the mansion.
Lightning kept hitting him as he ran. It only increased his speed. He ran through oceans, deserts, forests, cities, and snowy peaks. He looked beside him. 30 seconds left. But he was in his hometown, so he would get there in just under 30. He ran. The sun was beginning to come out… maybe he’d make it..! He found the house and his hot feet came to a stop. Out the cabin front door, he bolted in… and he went a bit too fast.
The bottle of green… slipped… fast… sweat… devil… it was all he could think of. He went to fast inside, and his sweaty hand let the bottle slip out and on the floor. What would the devil think? Disappointed. The timer ran to 0, and Jack had failed his mission. His whole family was confused and shocked. There was silence. The clock had left his sight. “Honey- was that our cure?”, his mom asked. “Y-yes.”, jack admitted. But then it had happened. His soul. He felt the heaviness leaving his shoulders. He didn’t even feel his shoulders in fact.
He was like a rising ghost, ascending to a… vacuum? His soul was being sucked in a giant vacuum in the sky!! He had been sucked, and now he saw the devil. “You have failed me” , the devil said. “ I know, I’m sorry,”, Jack said. Suddenly, Jack had been shrinking. A lot. Until the mighty Jack was no more. He ascended... and ended up in heaven.
“MWAH HAH HAH HAH HAAAHH!!!” the devil cackled. I have collected enough souls to be able to RULE THE WORLDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!”.
Oh no. The devil ruling the world? That doesn’t look good? What to do? Well… you’ll find out in – JACK VERSUS THE DEVIL.
