DelilahD

You know that feeling, where you're so nervous that you don't feel anything?
School captain crowning day was just like that for me.
"The school's Vice captain is..."
A part of me didn't want my name to be called out.
I wanted School Captain badly, and I couldn't envision anyone but myself receiving that title.
But a part of me wanted my name to be called out.
If my name wasn't called out for either, I wouldn't get any good leadership roles.

My breath tightened.
My lungs were shallow.
My throat felt dry.
This was the one chance I had to prove myself to the world.
"Delilah!"

Walking on that stage felt strange.
Seeing someone else get the role I yearned for felt stranger.
But I'm glad I got that role.

I'm still Vice-Captain.
I'm still serving my school with my best intention.
But only one thing has changed.
I'm proud to be a Vice-Captain.
I think I still would have been happy, School Captain or not.
