Neive R

Alas, the yellow star grasps me
So, away from home I must flee
The train of doom runs after me
For with grief I’m called to the camps
But to the camps I will NOT go
News of gassing continues
The radio talks of their merciless fate
This dread and sorrow tear my heart
Through the horror of bare streets I trudge
No train nor bike to help me
By foot I must trek the debris
The ruins of the life I once had
The air full of depression and mourning
The sound of sirens ringing in my ears
The smell of injustice lingers in the air
Pushing on I must go
Wishing for the peace of before left in the ashes
The stones, once my home, surround me
Now the dust and rubble I walk through
With a bag of precious essentials
All my clothes I wear for safe keeping
Layer upon layer put on me
Making moving arduous
The Gestapo may still find me
Will I be taken to the chambers
And never heard of again?
Alas, the yellow star grasps me
