Rodney I

Our story begins in summer, 2018, in Darwin. Lucien, 15, and I, George, 16, are going to a resort tomorrow with our parents. I am going to stay in the east tower of the economy hotel. We were going to stay for three weeks.
“It’s going to be so much fun!” Lucien was saying.
“Yeah, it’s going to be good to go away from school for a couple of weeks,” I agreed, “All my friends were so jealous!”
We got up extra early the next morning, waking everyone in the house.
“It’s time for vacation!” I exclaimed loudly.
And yeah, soon enough, it is vacation. We were on the car, chatting excitedly.
After a few hours, we arrived at Van Diemen gulf, where the island is nearby. We took the ferry and off they went to the island.
When we got to the hotel, it was already very late, so we went to sleep and planned to wake up in the morning to play.
________
I was woken up by a loud scream in the morning. I sat up. I looked around. It was still dark. I couldn’t see anyone. So, I went back to sleep.
________
I woke up again. It was now bright. And I see mum and dad are panicking.
“Where did you put it, honey?” said Dad.
“Well, I put it right there, and when I went to the toilet at night, it was gone!!” screamed Mum.
“Well, now it isn’t there, is it?!?!?!?!” questioned Dad.
Well, I knew it! Something happened at night! And the screamer is probably mum! And now Lucien is awake! He is panicking, asking Mum a million questions like: what happened and when did that happen. Then, he comes rushing to my bed, and told me some horrific news.
“We’ve been robbed!”, he said, “Mum’s purse is stolen!”
What?!?! Robbed? Mum’s purse? That’s news to me!
“We called security,” said dad, “they called the cops who will be here in five minutes, ten tops. You boys can play outside yourselves. Be back by lunch at 1 o’clock.”
“But we want to help you to solve the crime! Right, George?” asked Lucien.
“Err…” I trailed off.
Then, before I could properly answer the question, Mum spoke.
“You boys stay out of this! I don’t want you to be meddling with this situation!”
Defeated, Lucien went to the table, got some bread, torch and went outside. I followed.
“What were you thinking?”, I asked him menacingly, “when did you have that dumb idea?”
“Oh, I just thought I might help,” he said coolly, “change of plan then, let’s have some breakkie, and we can – wait. What is this? Under the bin? Why does the sewer have to be so hidden? Well, I believe this is not a sewer, but a secret passage!! Let’s investigate, shall we, bro???” he asked me.
“Maybe, but mum said that we- “ He cut me off.
“Come on, let’s go!”
He pulled me in the ‘sewer’. There was a ladder so we climbed down. There was a passage. It was dark.
“Luckily we brought a torch!” he said excitedly.
We walked for a very long time, which was probably an hour or so, and then we came to some light. Another torch! There were some voices. They said something in another language. We snuck up behind them, and we started walk behind them. Then, the men went up to the entrance, and we waited till the coast was clear (which is about five minutes) to do so. The next thing was so lucky, that you would have not believed in me. When we walked up, we saw the police, who was about to leave the island, was struggling with the men from the tunnel. We heard the police asked them questions like,
“Yeah, but why were you doing this in that tunnel? It’s daylight, and you don’t have to secretly move around! Plus, you look like one of the robbers from last night! The camera caught you! Amy, take this guy into custody.” Then, he spotted us. “ What are you children doing down there? Don’t tell me you were working with them!”
“No, sir, we are investigating, just like you. Then, we ended up here.” I replied.
“ Oh, well thanks children!” they congratulated us.
So, that is how our peaceful (sort of) adventure ended. We continued to have our holiday, peacefully.
