Chapter 1 – The shadow
My heart was beating, I was all sweaty and hot, the hill was almost impossible to walk up. Till I saw it, ………. "Marly," I called out, "A Monarch!" We both ran up the hill forgetting about our sore legs and our sweaty feet. We were almost there until the butterfly disappeared. Just vanished. We stopped as Manila and Damien caught up.
"Where's the butterfly?" Damion panted. In a puff, Marly squinted her eye-braws and answered, "It's gone." Marly kept walking then she disappeared. "Marly!" we cried. …. "OK… NO ONE MOVE", shouted" Damion, "Let's figure out a plan."
"NO!" I said in a high-pitched tone. "We need to get Marly".
I ran and then I saw her standing there still very still. I looked around and I couldn’t believe my eyes, Manila and Damion appeared and gave us a hug. "Wowww! What is this place?" I said. There were tall trees with pink and purple flowers. Green leaves streaked with butter, filled with wonder and delight…big roots that covered the earth and nice green spongy patchers of moss lay on either side of the trees, it was as if the sky was a bluey-green like the reflection of water. The air was fresh and a COOL breeze started to welcome itself in. There was a HUGE moment of silents as we took it all in.
Marly took a step back worse and tripped over one of the knotted roots. Manila stumbled to Marly.
"She must have got a shock," cried Damion. We all bent down next to her. Crying her name out loud, hoping for the best. It was no use. Suddenly there behind us was a shadowy figure, it was dark and scary with a strong looking stick that looked to be a sword. The shadowy figure seemed to drape over Marly; I looked behind my back and……...just behind me standing there was…… a light pink UNICORN with greenly blue main that was SMOOTH and shiny; its eyes a chestnut brown. My mouth was wide open. Soon Manila and Damion looked with awe, I nudged them gently, we moved to the side.
